What I want you to do: After completing all of the Module 8 material (read and engage activity, watching videos, and at least an initial post on the Module 8 Discussion), reflect and respond to the following prompts (imagine you are explaining your ideas to a friend or family member when you are writing): This week we have discussed how genes are expressed through transcription and translation and you had a chance to explore this process. Here is one more interactive tool for you to explore and use to visualize transcription and translation (Links to an external site.)(NOTE this may not work well with the Mozilla browser, try another browser if it is not working) Based on what you have learned using the module resources, write an explanation (as if you were talking to a friend or family member) of how gene expression derives a protein from a genotype. Your response should explain the connection between DNA, RNA, proteins, and traits and describe what happens during transcription and translation. Feel free to include a picture of a concept map or other visualization as an aid to your written explanation! What if anything that is still confusing you about gene expression and the process of transcription/translation? ---------------------------------- Why I'm asking you to do this: Reflection is an integral part of learning and a powerful life skill. It allows you to move from receiving knowledge to building new knowledge for yourself. By stepping back to reflect on what you have learned this week you will (1) connect new ideas to previous learning and experiences (2) synthesize information and data from the week's readings, videos, assignments, and interactions, (3) apply your new understanding to your daily life. These responses will also help me see how the class is progressing in their understanding of course content so I can better facilitate your learning. ----------------------------------
