Instructions (1) Come up with a Topic of your choice. Consider: a) Where do your interests lie? b) What would you like to learn more about? c) What topic do you think readers might like to learn about? d) Can you think of a new angle on an old topic? (2) In order to narrow the focus of your paper, you must ask yourself a specific question about the topic. Formulate your tentative thesis or you could phrase it as a research question. You will research and address this question in your paper. You use at least five credible sources. These sources will be used to help you come up with a meaningful response to the issues raised by your research topic. Remember, your use of source material will also be assessed, so be extremely careful that you are using reputable research material. (3) Before you undertake your major research you should use the template provided to write a Research Outline (Feel free to use the sample outline on Blackboard). *This outline can be discussed individually to help you with the paper writing process. You do not need to submit the outline if you do not want feedback. Also, please do not submit the outline as the actual essay itself. The essay should be in proper essay paragraph format, not the format of the essay template document. (4) Write your paper. Remember that this is a persuasive paper. Therefore, you are expected to analyze critically the arguments presented and use your sources to support or enhance your analysis. Your voice must be clear in your paper; it is not a simple retelling of what the sources say. Use your sources to support or enhance your own argument. You may expand on, qualify, argue, or refute what other writers have argued. Format: ü Must reflect academic paper conventions: Include an introductory paragraph with a thesis, several body paragraphs, and a conclusion. ü Include a Title page and a Reference page. ü Use a minimum of five secondary sources (scholarly peer-reviewed journal article or books). ü Document all references in APA format for both in-text citations and your References page. Do not plagiarize – seek help if needed. ü Type your paper in 12-point Times New Roman font and double-space. ü Your paper should be between 4-6 pages (approximately 1200 words) ü Number all pages. How to Find Sources: Your sources need to be scholarly, academic, and reliable. In order to find these sources, you need to visit Seneca's Library website to find out what constitutes academic sources: · Here is the library catalogue: · http://library.senecacollege.ca/ Writing a good research paper can be a rewarding experience.
