As we have discussed throughout this semester, health care is a business, and as such, it is important to understand its financial landscape nationally. Understanding the data compiled and published in the monthly Bureau of Labor and Statistics (BLS) report is an important step toward that goal. You are encouraged to stay up-to-date on this data, certainly throughout this semester, but I also strongly recommend that you maintain this habit throughout your career. I trust that you will find it helpful from both a personal and professional standpoint. https://www.bls.gov/news.release/pdf/empsit.pdf Using what you have learned from the BLS Employment Situation report, answer the following: What does this report highlight as the current national unemployment rate? How many jobs were added to the economy last month? Of those, how many were health care jobs? Speak to the breakout of these positions: Which specific sectors within healthcare saw growth? Decline? How has this data changed from this time last calendar year? Using what you have learned, how might this information impact the industry over the next month? Year?
